Nairobi: Al-Hilu meets with the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy to Sudan.

The Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Council of the Republic of Sudan, Abdulaziz Al-Hilu, met today, Friday, September 12, with the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Sudan, Ramtana Lamamra, in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, as part of the United Nations’ efforts to discuss ending the current war in Sudan. The meeting in Nairobi came in response to an official invitation from the UN envoy to Al-Hilu and his entourage. Lamamra had requested an urgent meeting with representatives of the “Government of Peace and Unity” announced by the founding “Sudan Alliance” last month in order to discuss with them, as an authentic party to the Sudanese crisis, ways to end the current war and achieve comprehensive peace throughout the country. The meeting was attended by the UN envoy and a high-level delegation of members of the Presidential Council of the “Government of Peace,” including Council member Tahir Abu Hajar, Governor of Eastern Sudan, Dr. Mabrouk Mubarak Salim, and member of the Council and Governor of South Kordofan/Nuba Mountains Region, Jagoo Makouara, accompanied by a number of officials who were in the region. This meeting is part of the United Nations’ efforts to find a peaceful settlement to the Sudanese crisis. Lamamra appointed his envoy as Special Envoy to Sudan in June 2024, a series of consultations with various parties to the Sudanese crisis, in an effort to relaunch a comprehensive process that would end the war and pave the way for a democratic transition in the country.
